I am lucky to have had good mentors in my first few years as a new therapist.

They were dedicated to training the staff because they wanted to ensure that we were providing quality care and services to their clients. It wasn’t all about productivity and caseload minimums.

It was about developing skills, confidence, and further education.

Lack of mentorship is one of the biggest complaints of therapists. There’s no one to learn from, observe, and grow with.  We’ve all felt that moment where we don’t know something and there’s no one to help.

"Katie was an excellent mentor! She helped me feel more confident in my ability to problem solve and evaluate a variety of children on my caseload. I learned how to effectively communicate tough conversations with parents. In addition when I was in a rut for treatment ideas or had difficulty working towards children’s goals, she helped me gain a fresh perspective with treatment ideas to make the just right challenge that is also fun!"

"Katie has been an amazing support over the last few months. As a new grad and the only OT at my job, having Katie to ask questions to has really helped me feel more reassured that I’m on the right track with my clients. She has a lot of knowledge on different topics in pediatric OT and the resources she provides are super helpful and time-saving. I would 100% recommend Katie as a mentor to anyone who is seeking extra support in their OT practice!"

I love the opportunity to learn and collaborate. My job is very isolating and I think there is a huge value to working with other OT's. I think this is a great opportunity to gain collaboration for those who might be working as a solo OT.

The group mentoring exceeded all my expectations. I gained confidence and clinical skills that I am able to use with many of my patients. I loved how you didn't "fluff" any topic and everything was very applicable to real life practice(both schools and clinic). It was amazing and I'm so thankful to have learned from you.

Katie's mentoring program was invaluable- I literally cannot say enough about it. Her weekly topics were ones that I feel were not touched upon in school and areas that I always wanted to learn more about. I knew nothing about feeding and oral motor but now feel excited to treat my first client in this area. Katie (The Well-Balanced OT) included recommended courses for each topic as well if we wanted to delve further into the topic. I have already used her free resources and my kids and parents love them! I also worked with Katie outside of the mentoring class regarding private business advice and I couldn’t have asked for someone better to learn from. She is personable and professional, and I look forward to working with her in the future! Whether you have been a therapist for 1 year or 30 years, there is something to gain from The Well-Balanced OT’s mentoring program and I recommend it HIGHLY!

Katie’s group mentoring program has been wonderful! Even though I’ve been a pediatric OT for many years, the support and collaboration with Katie and the other group members has been so helpful since I’m the only OT at my school and it’s great to learn from and bounce ideas off of each other. I can’t say enough positive things about Katie and the program resources – she is thoughtful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and really cares about helping other therapists grow and learn and her resources are creative and fun. I highly recommend Katie’s group mentoring program to all therapists, but especially new/newer grads and those therapists wanting to transition to pediatrics. I wish Katie was around when I first started working in peds!

Common Questions

When will it happen?
The next group will be in 2024

How long will it run for?
Each group is 12 weeks long.

When can I register?
Add your name to the waitlist to find out all the details (sign up here)!

Can OTAs join?
Yup! This program is for both OTs and OTAs. We have two session topics on evaluations, and even if you are not directly completing them, it’s still really helpful to understand what the OT is looking at and how it translates to therapy.

Will I get PDU/CEU credits?
Yes, you can earn up to 10 PDUs for NBCOT when you attend all the live group sessions, as this is considered a study group. This program is not AOTA pre-approved, but we will keep track of the hours. Each week you will be sent a tracking sheet, then self-submit the hours when you renew.

At the end of the program, you can also get a certificate of completion with the hours accrued (20 hours) to submit to state licensing boards (please check yours for approval).

Do I have to be present for all sessions?

You do not! Each live session will be recorded and sent to you shortly after the meeting. But remember, you must be present to earn PDU hours.

Am I able to “make up” a session if I’m unable to attend?

If you ever have to miss a live session but want to join on the other day that is offered, you are always welcome to join us. Just let me know ahead of time.

What if I don’t live in the United States?

You can join too! We’ve had therapists from Canada, South Africa, Tawain, and Australia join us. The time difference may make it a little tricky for those in AU, but you can choose if you want to join us live or watch the recordings. You can also take advantage of the community board to connect with the other OTs and ask questions!

How long will I have access to the material?

You will have access to the weekly topic information for a lifetime. All of the material is available for download!

You will be asked to download the Activity Guides and TPT resources by the end of the 12 weeks.

What if I want to continue with mentorship after the 12 weeks?
I’d love that! Once you graduate, you are able to join our WBOT COLLABORATIVE meetings that occur 2x a month.  The 75 minutes are less structured with more time dedicated to discussing your caseload. If you have a specific topic you’d like to discuss, you can request it!

You’ll continue to have access to all my resources, including anything new I make.

The cost is $38 a month.

Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately at this time, I do not offer refunds once the program has begun.  If you decide after the program begins that you are unable to join in live sessions (and you want to), I do offer you the opportunity to participate in a future cohort when the time better allows.

Can I schedule a 1:1 with you?

During the 12-weeks you can schedule a 1:1 with me for 30% off ($63 per hour). I highly recommend taking advantage of these discounted sessions. We can have an in-depth review of your caseload, goals, and deeper conversations about treatment planning and specific ideas for multiple clients.

An On-Demand Course
for New + Soon-To-Be OTs

Stressed Student to Thriving Therapist was developed out of an idea to help support our OT students transition into their career with more confidence, knowledge, and insight. I’ve seen lots of new OT’s be taken advantage of because they simply didn’t know what red flags to look for when interviewing with companies. They end up in positions with very high caseloads, insane productivity, no work-life balance and no mentorship. This is a one-way road to burn out. Let’s avoid that.

This course will answer many of the questions and thoughts new grads have:

▫️What do I include in my resume?

▫️What questions should I expect in the interview?

▫️What’s a typical salary?

▫️What should I expect in terms of benefits?

▫️How do I know if an employer is going to be a good one?

▫️What don’t I know???

At your own pace, you’ll learn how to perfect your resume and prepare for interviews. Remember, an interview is to help you decide if they will be a good fit for you!. We’ll discuss the pros and cons to different environments and share some red flags to look out for when interviewing.  Learn how to negotiate your salary and benefits and feel more confident as you start your new job!

We’ll go over how to prevent burnout (because you don’t want to experience it in your first year) and how to deal with imposter syndrome. Here’s a secret…we all experience it at multiple points in our careers.

At the end of the course you’ll have all the information you need to make the best choice possible when choosing where to begin your career and a few resources to take with you to help you start out on the right foot.

The program will  include lessons on:

Resume + Cover Letters

  • Including 2 resume templates and examples of resumes as different points in an OTs career
  • Learn what to include and how to organize it

Insights into Pediatric Positions

  • Learn where to look for postings, and review the pros + cons of working in EI, Outpatient Pediatrics, Telehealth, or in the schools
  • How do I know if a company is neurodiversity affirming?

Interview Questions + Negotiation

  • Minimum yearly salary estimator
